Trevor Noah

Trevor Noah is a South African Comedian, writer, producer and host who is currently seen working on The Daily Show when he talks about the satirical news program on Comedy central. He was born in Johannesburg where he began his career as a comedian, presenter, actor in South Africa. He later came in many different television hosting roles and has acted in many late-night talk show gigs.

He attained his international success by appearing on the American late-night talk show where he was a long time host. In his autobiographical comedy ‘Born a crime’, it garnered critical acclaim. Noah has received may acclaims and nominations and was also named one of the 35 most influential people in New York Media. During the time of his birth due to apartheid legislation, he was considered to be illegal under the law. He, in his book, claims that interracial marriages were not illegal until after his birth and talks extensively about the same in the book. In the year 2002, he had a small role in an episode of South African soap opera Isidingo. He later began to host his radio show the Noah’s Ark which was directed towards the youth of the place. He later stopped his hosting and started to focus on Comedy and performed alongside David Kau, Kagiso Lediga, Riaad Moosa, Dareen Simpson, etc.

Noah went on to host the educational TV programme, Run the adventure (2004-2006), Real Goboza (2007), The Amazing Date (2008), Strictly come dancing (2008), hosted 3rd annual South Africa Film and television awards (2009). Noah has performed all over South Africa in the blacks-only comedy show, the heavyweight comedy jam, the Vodacom campus comedy tour, the cape town international comedy festival, etc.  In December 2014, he became a recurring contributor to The Daily Show and was also announced that Noah would succeed Jon Stewart as the host. Soon, after Noah’s jokes caught the internet’s attention and was criticized for being offensive to women. After his successful debut, his contract with Comedy Central was extended, and due to this success, he led three stand-up specials on Comedy Central and Netflix.

Noah says that his comedic influences as Richard Pryor, Bill Cosby, which allowed him to have a very good comedic influence. He also says that Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle laid the foundation of comedy as we know it today. Noah is a Polyglot and is fluent in English, Afrikaans, Zulu, Xhosa, Tswana, and German. Due to a domestic violence incident with his mother, Trevor wanted to bring awareness to the public. He describes himself as a progressive person who has a global perspective but not politically progressive. In 2018, he set up a Trevor Noah Foundation which is a Johannesburg based non-profit organization which helps with orphans, vulnerable youth with education, life skills and social capital. This organization strives to make sure that young people have the right opportunity to help understand their future and look for successful opportunities.
